Beattyville Streetscapes Improvements
Beattyville, Kentucky
Downtown Beattyville in Lee County has seen a momentous revitalization to its Main Street Corridor with the recent Phase 1 implementation of the Beattyville Streetscape Master Plan. After intense and thoughtful preparation spending numerous years collecting grants, the City of Beattyville and the Downtown Beattyville Alliance hired CMW to create a Streetscape Master Plan. CMW was instructed to develop ideas that could be implemented over the course of many phases that would encourage small business growth, increase pedestrian traffic, solve the problems of traffic flow congestion and unorganized parking all while enhancing the aesthetics and beauty of the small town located at the headwaters of the Kentucky River. Phase 1 of the Streetscape Master Plan included using the city’s vision for their Main Street to develop multiple site concept plans and preliminary cost estimates to foster conversation and debate amongst the stakeholders. The city and CMW worked towards and adopted a plan that encompassed the goals of the city. CMW then created construction drawings and used those drawings to work with the various local utility companies and government agencies receiving their approval to construct Phase 1. Phase 1 of the Streetscape Master Plan was constructed and in the two years since its completion has been the catalyst for downtown growth. To date, five of the six buildings that were either vacant or uninhabitable before construction have either been rented by a new small business tenant or are in the process of being renovated. Construction Drawings for Phase 2 of the Beattyville Streetscape Master Plan have been approved and are currently out to bid for General Contractors.
